Citizen’s Lobby Day 2017
March 12, 2017
Hundreds of citizens from across the state came to the NC Legislature on Wednesday for the Citizens Lobby Day to End Gerrymandering. League members and leaders were there to meet with legislators and advocate for nonpartisan redistricting reform. Following the lobby day meetings, LWVNC board member Janet Hoy spoke to attendees at a rally on the Bicentennial Mall, along with event coordinators from Common Cause NC and speakers from different advocacy groups.
This was a sincere, thoughtful and powerful outpouring of grassroots support for independent redistricting and a clear sign that people from all walks of life and every corner of the state want fairly drawn voting maps. The overwhelming manifestation of public support shows that the movement to end gerrymandering isn’t going away.
